As a freelance careers adviser I enjoy the freedom to explore, with you, your options and pathways.

I draw on my own experiences and networks for my work as a careers adviser. In my early career as an Army Officer, a large part of my work was supporting career progression for my soldiers. I used my experience in the military to move into International Humanitarian Aid, working for the UN, the Norwegian Refugee Council, the British Government and private sector development, delivering aid programmes in conflict zones around the world. After retraining as a Geography teacher, when our son was young, I led Careers and PSHE programmes for yrs 7-13. After Covid I left teaching to run Ocean Surfski full-time, our specialist ocean racing kayak business. We are the UK dealers for the two top global surfski brands and kit. I have qualified as a Level 6 Careers Adviser to formalise the advice I was giving to former pupils, the GB squad athletes and Stride Forward mentees.

 

I have delivered the Dept for Education Apprenticeship Support (ASK) programme in Devon for 18 months, and now work as a freelance adviser.

As an independent adviser I support a wide range of people, usually (but not only) between the ages of 14-25, with their subject choices, finding routes to, through, and after School, College or University, as well as older people looking for a change in direction and a new start. I am frequently asked by recent graduates for help with job searches after Uni. I am a strong believer in finding your personal pathway, which may not follow your expectations.
